I’m Susan Michele Marino and am a pastel artist living in Massachusetts. I share my home with my husband, Frank, and our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Gatsby and Oliver, and two cats, Tommie and Snowball. I always enjoyed art and took many art classes through high school and college, although in college I took a different path: English literature. I had hopes of being a writer, and have written poetry and started a book but it never became a career. I spent most of the years in between then and now caring for my family which I wouldn’t trade for the world. When our children, Tony and Jennifer, were grown and on their own, I began to pursue art and took a pastel class at a local art studio.
That class ignited a passion for pastels!
I absolutely love the process of painting – from the first charcoal thumbnail sketch, to the rough draft color study and then to the actual painting. Colors in pastels are so vibrant, being almost pure pigment, and the layering of colors allows the painter to obtain an effect that is individual to each artist.
Along with pastel painting, I also love gardening, traveling and writing.
I do hope you enjoy my website. Most of my art is available for purchase, some has already sold and of course, please contact me for commissions!
